Quinshon Judkins is coming off of a remarkable freshman season in Oxford.
He rushed for 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, making him one of the SEC’s most impactful true freshman running backs in recent memory. But looking ahead to 2023, Judkins explained how he will try to avoid a sophomore slump.
“Just continuing to work hard, remain humble, do what got me here,” Judkins said Thursday at SEC Media Days. “Keeping the main thing the main thing. I think as far as being the best you can, doing everything in your power to make your game better and perfect your craft. I think that’s the only thing that you can control.”
Judkins was named SEC freshman of the year for his efforts.
His emergence was a relative surprise, especially so early in his career. Judkins was a 3-star prospect and the No. 46 running back in the country in the class of 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings
Just a year later, Judkins is known as one of the top running backs in the country.
Judkins was also asked about what players have to do to be able to contribute early in their careers in the SEC.
“I think as far as playing early in the SEC, which is the hardest conference to play in, I think as far as a player, you have to prepare well,” he said. “Really that’s probably the biggest thing, prepare well. Just coming out of high school, it’s really hard for a guy to do that.”
Judkins and Ole Miss will be in action on Sept. 2 against Mercer.
