The No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners are dominating the Temple Owls in a Week 3 tune-up before they face off against the No. 24 Auburn Tigers next Saturday, but mental errors against the Owls already put the Sooners at a disadvantage in their pivotal meeting with the Tigers next weekend.
Oklahoma will be without one of its best defensive linemen for the first half against Auburn in R Mason Thomas, as the senior defensive end was ejected from the Sooners’ matchup against Temple midway through the third quarter after being called for targeting.
This is obviously a massive blow for Oklahoma, as Thomas represents one of the senior leaders up front for the Sooners on defense while also being one of their most experienced pass rushers.
Losing Thomas for even one half against a team as dynamic on offense as the Tigers is a situation that head coach Brent Venables did not want to find himself in, but it’s the hand he’s been dealt.
The Sooners will have to do the best they can to maintain their integrity up front against a very stout Auburn offensive line for the first 2 quarters of play while Thomas serves his first-half suspension.
