The summer is always a busy time for high school recruiting, especially the month of June. Official visits ramp up and many top prospects decide on their college destination prior to the start of their senior year in high school.
The 2027 recruiting class is now different, with numerous blue-chip recruits choosing to commit to the SEC’s top programs. June was busy enough with commitments to cause a significant shakeup at the top of the recruiting rankings.
SEC football recruiting rankings
This story will take a look at the highest-rated SEC recruiting classes as of publication in early July.
A couple of caveats: First, these classes are not final. Prospects will not be eligible to officially sign with any college program until the Early Signing Period in December. Second, all recruiting rankings referenced in this story are via the 247Sports Composite rankings system.
Let’s dive in:
Texas A&M
- National rank: 1
- SEC rank: 1
- Total commits: 25
- Blue-chip commits: 17
Texas A&M appears to be well on its way to a No. 1 overall recruiting class once again. The Aggies have been at the top of the recruiting food chain before โ that came back in the class of 2022 under Jimbo Fisher.
The Aggies will surely be hoping to get better results from 2027 than they did from that top-ranked group in 2022. Mike Elko and his staff have been well-supported by the university and fundraising systems โ a report from earlier this week suggested A&M has already committed to spending $10 million on 2027 high school recruits.
A&M’s top-rated recruit is 5-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, who is currently the No. 5 overall prospect in the nation. At quarterback, the Aggies have a commitment from 4-star passer Jayce Johnson.
Texas
- National rank: 5
- SEC rank: 2
- Total commits: 22
- Blue-chip commits: 15
Texas could certainly end up with the No. 1 overall class in this cycle if it can get a few more 5-stars on board. The Longhorns have a pair of 5-star commits so far, lagging behind Texas A&M’s 6.
The Longhorns have already picked up a dozen commits from the Lone Star State, including top overall recruit John Meredith III. Meredith is the No. 4 overall player and the No. 1 cornerback in the nation for the class of 2027.

Oklahoma
- National rank: 6
- SEC rank: 3
- Total commits: 26
- Blue-chip commits: 15
Oklahoma is on the cusp of finalizing its best-ever recruiting class under Brent Venables. The Sooners have the makings of a top-5 overall class if they can add a few more blue-chip prospects before the end of the 2027 cycle.
Oklahoma’s top commit in this class is 5-star linebacker Cooper Witten. He is the son of former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who joined Oklahoma’s coaching staff as tights end coach earlier this offseason. OU’s top quarterback commit in this class is 4-star Jamison Roberts.
Auburn
- National rank: 9
- SEC rank: 4
- Total commits: 25
- Blue-chip commits: 15
Auburn is off to a great start on the recruiting trail under Alex Golesh. It’s been an especially busy few weeks for the Tigers, who have earned 15 of their 25 total commitments since the beginning of June.
Auburn’s class is loaded with 4-star talent, but the Tigers are missing the high-end prospects that have Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma above them in the national rankings. So far, Auburn’s top recruit in 2027 is 4-star running back Myles Johnson-Cook, who is the No. 58 overall player in the class of 2027.
Florida
- National rank: 10
- SEC rank: 5
- Total commits: 24
- Blue-chip commits: 16
With a few months still remaining in the 2027 recruiting cycle, Florida has edged out Georgia for a top 10 class in the nation and a top 5 class in the SEC. It’s been a tremendous few weeks for Jon Sumrall and the Gators, who have added 14 commits to their 2027 recruiting class since the beginning of May.
Florida’s class has a clear leader as things stand in early July โ 5-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller. He’s the No. 3 overall recruit in the nation and is the only 5-star currently committed to Florida in the class of 2027. At quarterback, Florida has a pledge from 4-star Davin Davidson.
