If Rece Davis gets his way on Saturday, College GameDay could have an intriguing option for its Week 8 site. During the College GameDay Podcast, Davis revealed that he’s pulling for North Dakota State to defeat host UNLV.
That would move the Mountain West-leading Bison to 6-0, who head to second-place New Mexico on Oct. 24.
“I need North Dakota State to win this game. We don’t root for teams. Pete says this often. We root for the story,” Davis said. “They’ve got a game [vs.] New Mexico in a couple weeks. That could be really, really attractive…I’m not saying GameDay is going there but I’m not saying it’s not.”
It’s rare that GameDay goes to non-Power conference games but it has happened on a few occasions, such as Appalachian State at James Madison in 2023. Interestingly similar to that James Madison appearance, North Dakota State is also a former FCS program that has now transitioned into the Group of 6.
North Dakota State against New Mexico could have the makings of a defensive battle. The Bison allow just 9.8 points per game, tied for the fewest in the country. Meanwhile, the Lobos give up only 10.6 points per game, which is fourth in the nation.
Meanwhile, as Davis hopes to get his wish, GameDay is headed to Tuscaloosa for Georgia vs. Alabama on Saturday.
