Next year’s Ole Miss-LSU game just got a little more interesting.

It is being widely reported that Lane Kiffin will be the next head coach at Ole Miss. While the school has yet to make an official announcement, Kiffin’s family has pretty much confirmed the news.

Having previously been both a head coach and assistant in the SEC, Kiffin will be facing some familiar foes in Year 1 with the Rebels. The most familiar of them all is LSU coach Ed Orgeron. Kiffin and Orgeron worked together at USC and Tennessee (and almost LSU). Parrish Alford of the Daily Journal reports that Orgeron advised his close friend not to take the Rebels head coaching job:

LSU coach Ed Orgeron, who was 10-25 as Ole Miss coach from 2005-2007, advised Kiffin against the move.

Daily Journal sources said Orgeron told Kiffin a certain “fit” was required to coach at Ole Miss, and he didn’t think his long-time friend had that fit.

It will be interesting to see what both coaches have to say when they’re eventually asked about this nugget. If true, it adds to the intrigue of the meeting set for Sept. 26, 2020 in Baton Rouge.
