On Friday night, former Auburn OL and LB Jackie Burkett — a member of the Tigers’ 1957 national championship team — passed away, according to 247Sports.

Diagnosed with leukemia last year, Burkett was 80 years old at the time of his death, which occurred in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Burkett played in the NFL for 10 seasons with the Baltimore Colts, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys. He was a first-round pick of the Colts in 1960.

During his Auburn career, Burkett was an All-American in 1958 and made three All-SEC squads. Following his playing days, he owned a restaurant in New Orleans and also served as a county commissioner in Florida in his later years.
