After being dismissed by Florida head coach Dan Mullen as part of a change to the Gators’ defensive staff, Ron English is reportedly set to join Purdue to coach its secondary, according to Stadium college football reporter Brett McMurphy.

English has actually spent the past 4 seasons in the SEC. After a year as the defensive coordinator at San José State, he joined Mullen’s staff at Mississippi State in 2017, coaching the Bulldogs’ secondary. When Mullen was hired by the Gators in 2018, he brought English along as part of his initial staff in Gainesville.

Prior to his stint at San José State, English was the head coach of Eastern Michigan from 2009-2013, where he was named the MAC Coach of the Year in 2011 after improving the Eagles from a 2-10 record (2-6 MAC) to a 6-6 mark (4-4 in-conference).

With his reported hiring at Purdue, this will be English’s 2nd spell in the Big Ten. He spent 5 seasons at Michigan from 2003-2007, originally coaching defensive backs but then becoming offensive coordinator beginning in 2006.
