Sports fields across much of the northeast will be empty this fall, according to a report from college athletics insider Jon Rothstein.
Per Rothstein, the Ivy League — which had previously considered moving football to the spring — has instead decided to cancel all fall sports.
Rothstein tweeted that the conference isn’t going to consider playing sports until Jan. 1, 2021 at the earliest:
Sources: Ivy League programs have been informed that fall sports have been cancelled.
The conference will not entertain any sports being played until after January 1st.
Winter sports will have an update in mid-July on their respective practice schedules.

Obviously, that puts the start of many winter sports seasons in jeopardy as well, including men’s and women’s basketball. Rothstein said those sports will receive an update in mid-July, which is quickly approaching.
The Ivy League is an FCS conference, featuring 8 teams — Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth and Brown.
