Report: LSU leading the way for 5-star CB Patrick Surtain Jr., Florida closing in

LSU still leads the way for five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr., but Florida could be closing in.
Surtain is the No. 2 overall prospect out of the state of Florida in the class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite.
The nation’s No. 1 corner prospect out of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage has been impressed with the Tigers’ football program.
“I’ve been loving LSU, and it feels like home,” Surtain told Geaux247. “You know, my family is down there and I got great contact with the coaches — Coach [Corey] Raymond, Coach [Dave] Aranda, and Coach [Ed] Orgeron. They treat me like a son.”
Surtain has been especially impressed with the head coach of the Bayou Bengals.
“It’s just about how much of a valuable player I am and how much of a need I am for the program. He [Orgeron] is an energetic dude for a guy like him. He’s a great coach, he makes sure you’re doing everything right and he make sure his kids are playing at their best.”
Surtain has also been looking at Florida as a potential destination.
Earlier this month, he was in Gainesville to watch Florida’s thrilling win over Tennessee, the report stated. That trip led to the Gators being involved in Surtain’s list of schools.
“The atmosphere was great. I felt the vibe of it. I felt like I was playing,” he said. “The fans were crazy. The defense played great and the offense played well. It was all around a great game.”
Surtain mentioned he’s also high on Florida State.
