LSU still leads the way for five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr., but Florida could be closing in.

Surtain is the No. 2 overall prospect out of the state of Florida in the class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite.

The nation’s No. 1 corner prospect out of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage has been impressed with the Tigers’ football program.

โ€œIโ€™ve been loving LSU, and it feels like home,โ€ Surtain told Geaux247. โ€œYou know, my family is down there and I got great contact with the coaches โ€” Coach [Corey] Raymond, Coach [Dave] Aranda, and Coach [Ed] Orgeron. They treat me like a son.โ€

Surtain has been especially impressed with the head coach of the Bayou Bengals.ย

โ€œItโ€™s just about how much of a valuable player I am and how much of a need I am for the program. He [Orgeron] is an energetic dude for a guy like him. Heโ€™s a great coach, he makes sure youโ€™re doing everything right and he make sure his kids are playing at their best.โ€

Surtain has also been looking at Florida as a potential destination.

Earlier this month, he was in Gainesville to watch Floridaโ€™s thrilling win over Tennessee, the report stated. That trip led to the Gators being involved in Surtain’s list of schools.ย

โ€œThe atmosphere was great. I felt the vibe of it. I felt like I was playing,” he said. “The fans were crazy. The defense played great and the offense played well. It was all around a great game.โ€

Surtain mentioned he’s also high on Florida State.
