The Mississippi State-Ole Miss rivalry is one of the most intense in all of college sports, with each side filled with ample hatred of the other.
However, that won’t stop new Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead from targeting assistants he thinks are right for jobs on his coaching staff.
In fact, according to FootballScoop.com, Moorhead has offered a job to Memphis cornerbacks coach Marcus Woodson, who is a former Ole Miss defensive back:
Source tells FootballScoop Mississippi State has offered Memphis corners coach Marcus Woodson. Woodson, a Mississippi native and former Ole Miss defensive back, previously coached defensive backs at Fresno State, Charleston Southern and Millsaps prior to joining Mike Norvell’s staff at Memphis. Sources tell FootballScoop, State is confident he is coming; but we have heard chatter that Ole Miss and other SEC programs have had discussions with Woodson as well. Stay tuned…both Mississippi State and Memphis are about to kickoff their bowl games.
Will MSU fans be upset that a former Rebel is on the coaching staff? That remains to be seen, especially since nothing is official yet.
Still, it’s an interesting move for the new head coach of the Bulldogs.
