Will Muschamp replaced Ellis Johnson as Auburn’s defensive coordinator in 2015. Now, a year later, Johnson will work for Muschamp.

Ellis Johnson has a wealth of experience coaching in the Carolinas, including stints at Clemson, East Carolina, Appalachian State, The Citadel and, of course, South Carolina. Johnsonย served on Steve Spurrierโ€™s staff thereย from 2008-11.

According to Tony Morrell of 247sports, Johnson will reportedly join Muschampโ€™s staff in a role to be determined.

Muschamp was hired to replaceย Johnson as defensive coordinator at Auburn afterย Johnson left to be the head coach at Southern Mississippi in 2012. However, Johnson went an abysmal 0-12, the school’s first winless season since 1925 (0-7) before beingย fired after one season.

Johnson also has plenty of experience in the SEC, not just the Carolinas.ย Johnson spent a total of eight years as an assistantย at Alabama while coaching four years at Mississippi State.

As for the rest of the staff, former interim coach Shawn Elliott was retained by Muschamp and will return to his role as offensive line coach.

On Tuesday, Auburn defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson confirmed via Twitter that he’ll be followingย Muschamp to be hisย defensive coordinator in Columbia.
