Rick Pitino is back in the ranks of college basketball coaches after getting hired at Iona this offseason.

How long will the former Kentucky and Louisville coach have to wait to make his debut? Well, according to a tweet he sent on Wednesday, he’s in no rush for the season to start.

As we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, Pitino tweeted a suggestion to the NCAA to start the season in January and play only league games to protect players and staff members:

As cases rise in many parts of the U.S., there might be some momentum for Pitino’s idea if things don’t change soon.

Fortunately for the NCAA, there are still a few months remaining before a final decision on the 2020-21 season needs to be made. There will surely be plenty of debate as to what exactly this coming season should look like.
