Despite Mississippi State looking to chip away, Alabama has led wire in Starkville in Week 5 as it looks to make it 17 wins in a row over the Bulldogs.
The Tide held a 28-17 lead to begin the third quarter as they looked to go up by three scores and take a step closer to a 5-0 start to the season. After several chunk plays put them within the Mississippi State 10-yard line, a couple of penalties saw the drive begin to stall out a little bit.
Eventually, Alabama faced a 3rd-and-goal from the Bulldogs’ 13 after a sack of Keelon Russell was negated after an offsides call against the Bulldogs. This time, Russell delivered. He fired a ball to the right side of the end zone, where Rico Scott made a great catch near the sideline and with a defender all over him as the Tide made it a 35-17 ballgame.
Here’s video of Scott’s catch, his second touchdown of the season and Russell’s first of the afternoon:
After Kamario Taylor’s second interception of the afternoon, the Tide needed just three plays to get it back into the end zone again. That made it 42-17 with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, in what might be the nail in the coffin for the Bulldogs on the afternoon.
