One of the biggest storylines of Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC is the resumption of the Longhorns’ rivalry with Texas A&M.
Now a new development has emerged from the Aggies athletics director, Ross Bjork, who told the Houston Chronicle that when the teams meet, no later than 2025, the location is set.
โI canโt imagine the atmosphere when that game is played,โ Ross Bjork told the Houston Chronicle on Thursday during the SEC spring meetings. โAnd it will be played at Kyle Field.โ
As a league newcomer along with the Sooners, the Longhorns donโt really have a say in the leagueโs early scheduling anyway, Bjork added.
โItโs a whole new day, itโs a whole new league and itโs a whole new format,โ Bjork said of A&M hosting the first game with its old Southwest Conference and Big 12 rival, and therefore playing consecutive games at Kyle Field. โThatโs something thatโs important to us โฆโ
Matt Hayes reported earlier this week that Oklahoma and Texas have been involved in the scheduling talks, but officials from those schools were not present at the meetings this week in Destin, Florida.
โThey realize theyโre going to be very, very happy to be in the SEC, and thatโs why they made the move,โ Bjork said. โTheyโll take whatever (they can get) โฆ and they donโt have a vote in the process, itโs only current membership.โ
The teams have not met since 2011, and have split the last 6 meetings.
