The Alabama Crimson Tide went into their bye week with a victory over the Texas A&M Aggies. Despite this, one can say they didn’t really enter the bye on a high note.

Prior to win vs. Texas A&M, Alabama lost to Georgia and Tennessee. The Crimson Tide also trailed the Aggies through three quarters before pulling away in the final frame. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb knows his unit had plenty of areas to improve upon and was happy to see his players attack those weaknesses during their mid-season break.

“I was really encouraged by just the mindset of the players during the bye,” Grubb told reporters on Monday. “Sometimes you get players that don’t really want to work… these guys definitely took advantage… [were] getting their bodies healthy, getting out in the field, and getting better.”

Alabama (6-2, 4-2 SEC) has a nice road triumph against Kentucky as the star pendant on its College Football Playoff resume. Beyond that, though, the Crimson Tide’s sheet is lacking pop. Saturday’s road affair with the LSU Tigers represents their last chance to boost their odds, because wins over Vanderbilt, Chattanooga and Auburn won’t move the needle.

A loss by the Crimson Tide or Tigers this weekend could be the difference between a CFP bid and missing the playoff entirely. Alabama and LSU kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 7 (ABC).
