Ryan Succop was one of the heroes of Thursday’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the Dallas Cowboys, as he hit the game-winning field goal in the closing seconds.
After game, the former South Carolina kicker told a story of how coach Bruce Arians allowed him to miss a team meeting set for Friday in order to attend his son’s birthday party. Succop initially told Arians about the birthday earlier in the week, and figured he could attend the party on Friday because he thought it would be during an off day.
“Hey Coach, I’d really love to be at my son’s birthday,” he said. “You know I’ll be at the meeting if you need me, but if I can go, I’d love to go.”
Arians replied, “Go to the birthday party, have fun.”
After Succop hit the game-winning kick, Succop said Arians gave him a hug coming off the field, and said, “It’s going to be a heck of a birthday party tomorrow.”
The kicker said the gesture meant a lot to him, and that Arians is great with families.
Doesnโt matter what you do for a living- People work harder/play harder when they know bosses care about them and their family. Not surprised Arians would do this, more surprised others donโt. #gobucs #nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/oHctaQq9Rr
