Alabama is getting set to face Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff next weekend, but its preparation hasn’t come without distractions.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer has been linked to the Michigan coaching vacancy. He was previously linked to the Penn State job before he shot down those rumors and the Nittany Lions hired Matt Campbell for the role.

During a media availability on Friday, star receiver Ryan Williams downplayed the impact of rumors surrounding DeBoer’s future.

“Of course we see it on TV but he’s given his best effort here,” Williams said. “The focus is on playing against Oklahoma. And we’re not really worried about it.

“At the end of the day, he serves us 100%. That’s our coach so we’re going to play for him. External noise is external noise. We just focus on the internal.”

Here’s a clip from Williams speaking with local beat writers in Tuscaloosa:

When asked about the Penn State job earlier this month, DeBoer noted that he and his family are “extremely happy” at Alabama and haven’t had interest in other jobs.

DeBoer is 0-2 against Oklahoma as Alabama’s head coach, including a loss in Tuscaloosa earlier this season. That game is slated for Friday, Dec. 19.
