Ryan Williams came to Alabama with all the massive expectations of a 5-star talent and in-state prospect. While he smashed those expectations with an impressive performance for Kalen DeBoer, the ultimate team success lagged behind.

Along with a devastating regular-season loss to Vanderbilt, the Crimson Tide ended the season with their 4th defeat of the season in a ReliaQuest Bowl loss to Michigan. That left Alabama with a 9-4 record, which was significant, to say the least.

Failing to win 10 games is not a normal occurrence in Tuscaloosa, with the Crimson Tide last winning fewer than 10 games in 2007. That was the first season for Nick Saban, and Alabama would go on to win 11+ games in 15 of the next 16 seasons.

Speaking with Pete Nakos of On3, Williams reflected on that fact recently. The star receiver admitted it stung that Alabama won at least 10 games every year of his life, up until his freshman season playing for the program. He also said, “You can only imagine” what the loss to the Wolverines felt like after the regular season.

The good news? Williams described Alabama as “some men on a mission” entering the 2025 season.

Can Williams and the Tide get back to the status everyone expects, even with a new quarterback at the helm? Time will tell this fall.
