Ryan Yaites, a 4-star safety out of Denton, Texas (Guyer) with a reported 21 offers, has committed to play in the SEC.
Yaites, who committed to LSU after he was recruited by Kerry Cooks, is rated the No. 7 safety in the class of 2023 and the No. 24 player in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the fourth commit for LSU’s class, and third-highest rated. Yaites, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, is also the second safety in the class.
On Wednesday, LSU landed a commitment from fellow safety Michael Daugherty out of Georgia.
Yaites had already built a relationship with Brian Kelly and his staff.
“I actually met Coach Kelly, Coach Cooks and most of the staff last summer on a couple visits I took to Notre Dame before they came to LSU. I used to have a call with Coach Kelly each week,” he told TigerDetails. “That relationship just carried over when they offered me again.”
He added, “With LSU, the environment is crazy and it’s beautiful. In Baton Rouge, you got the food too and that’s one of my favorite things. With the guys, Brian Kelly, I’m talking to them every couple of days.”
Cooks views Yaites as a true safety but they move him around in the secondary when he gets there, Tiger Details reported.
