TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Citing an ongoing investigation, University of Alabama coach Nick Saban declined to say anything about the status of sophomore tight end Kurt Freitag during the Southeastern Conference’s weekly coaches’ teleconference on Wednesday morning.

“I’ve been informed by the authorities not to make comment about this investigation,” Saban said. “I would like to leave it at that.”

According to court documents first reported by AL.com, Freitag had 112 grams of marijuana and $4,661 in cash seized by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force from his Bryant Hall dorm room on Oct. 7. The story didn’t come to light until Monday afternoon.

The complaint does not specify if Freitag is facing charges. In addition to Saban, representatives from Tuscaloosa Police and WANTF have also declined to comment.

Freitag played in two games last season and made two receptions. The reserve been out since the first week of training camp from a turf-toe injury that apparently required surgery.
