Sam Pittman reacted to some of the questions about QB KJ Jefferson following Arkansas’ win over Rice on Saturday when Jefferson’s accuracy appeared to slip some.
Pittman said at a Monday press conference that he wasn’t concerned, although Jefferson has had some high passes. He added that plenty of quarterbacks miss, and he didn’t want to make a mountain out a mole hill.
Jefferson was 12-for-21 passing for 128 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
“The disappointing thing, honestly,” Pittman said, “was in the first half with KJ, he was outside the pocket, just throw the ball away and he threw a pick. That right there was stress. That came from not having early success and I’m trying to make a miracle happen out here. I think he would throw it away 9 times out of 10, I think he was pressing.”
Pittman also noted that because Jefferson isn’t hit in practice, it takes him some time to get going, and when he becomes a better runner, Jefferson will be a better passer, and build confidence.
“KJ probably took a lot of heat, and everybody’s got their opinion, but the one that matters is mine. He’s our quarterback, and he’s going to be a heck of a quarterback for us,” Pittman said.
Pittman also noted that he has confidence in Malik Hornsby.
A former newspaper veteran, Keith Farner is a news manager for Saturday Down South.
