In less than a decade, the Savannah Bananas have developed from a Coastal Plain League squad into a national force. “Banana Ball” has captured the eyes of millions of Americans and sold out stadiums across the nation. They’re hoping to start their 2027 season in the same fashion with an opening in SEC country.
The Bananas and one of their opponents, the Firefighters, are joining SEC Nation ahead of Saturday’s LSU–Auburn contest. Their appearance on the popular program comes after their announcement that they’ll open their 2027 Banana Ball campaign at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Savannah initially began its Banana Ball theatrics in home games while in the CPL. Their first appearance with Banana Ball rules came on July 26, 2020. In 2023, the Bananas folded their CPL squad and became a full-time barnstorming brand. They implemented additional teams, and became baseball’s version of the Harlem Globetrotters. Unlike the Globetrotters, though, Banana Ball games are unscripted; the Bananas losing isn’t an aberration.
In 2026, Banana Ball expanded to six teams. This led to the creation of the Banana Ball Championship League and Banana Bowl, an inaugural championship won by the Texas Tailgaters. The trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium begins a season where Banana Ball goes international — to Mexico and Canada — for the first time.
