Tyler Trent has quickly become the most heart-warming story of this college football season.

A Purdue fan who was also enrolled at the school before he had to focus on treatments for terminal bone cancer gripped America on Saturday in a touching piece by ESPN’s “College GameDay” before the Ohio State-Purdue game. In the story, Trent predicted a Purdue victory, and the Boilermakers made good on that prediction with a 49-20 win over the Buckeyes.

ESPN host Scott Van Pelt reached out to Trent earlier this week, and announced late Tuesday night that he would help Trent fulfill a dream by working together, which they’re expected to do Wednesday night.

Trent has developed a special connection with the football team since he camped out last year to get tickets for the upcoming game against Michigan and met coach Jeff Brohm. Since then, Vice President Mike Pence has called him, and his name has been a battle cry for Purdue fans, with signs and chants saying, “Tyler Strong.”

Van Pelt’s show airs at midnight ET on ESPN.

Here is Tom Rinaldi interviewing Trent as Purdue took the lead.
