Scott Van Pelt began his college football picks segment this week with an SEC blockbuster that will begin Saturday’s Week 7 slate at noon ET on ABC.
It’ll take place in Columbia, where 14th-ranked Mizzou hosts 8th-ranked Alabama in a showdown that will be sort of a fork-in-the-road for both teams’ seasons. For the 5-0 Tigers, they want to keep their roll going, stay unbeaten and prove to the doubters that their record and ranking isn’t due to a weaker schedule so far in 2025.
For the 4-1 Crimson Tide, they’ll be trying to keep their own roll going that started 2 weeks ago when they went to Athens and took down Georgia. Alabama kept the momentum up last week in a home win over Vanderbilt, and now the Tide are back on the road, where they’re a slight 2.5-point favorite at a sure-to-be-rocking Faurot Field.
Mizzou has won 15 games in a row in the friendly confines of Columbia, and Van Pelt believes that has a great chance to continue on Saturday.
“We begin in Columbia, Missouri. A 5-0 team that has not been tested like this all season. But this is a massive opportunity for Coach Drink as the Tide rolls into town. We’re backing the Tigers,” said Van Pelt, noting that Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz has a great chance to get a statement win for his program.

Van Pelt has had some good fortune when backing those Tigers, going 6-1 against the spread when picking Mizzou on his “Winners” segment since 2022, according to ESPN.
