Scott Van Pelt unveiled an excellent Lou Holtz impression on ESPN during the National Championship Game.

The veteran anchor was on the Field Pass with the Pat McAfee Show broadcast and was talking with show producer Ty Schmit, who’s been wearing a Lou Holtz costume tonight.

“It’s very difficult to play against the University of Ohio State, everybody knows that it’s like going against a tsunami,” said Van Pelt, with a Holtz-esque lisp. “If you want to stay up and watch that’s fantastic, and if you don’t, you fall asleep when the TV’s on, we still get the ratings.”

The crew of the Pat McAfee Show were impressed by Van Pelt’s impression with McAfee heard giggling.

The Holtz impressions are due to Ohio State’s Ryan Day having beef with the legendary coach. The beef stretches back to 2023 when Holtz questioned Ohio State’s toughness. Day took exception to this and made a strong statement directed at Holtz following his team’s win over Notre Dame that season.

Even as recently as this week, the duo have exchanged jabs. Day also recently admitted that he hasn’t spoken to Holtz since the spat, implying that the hard feelings are still there.

Then, on Monday, the Pat McAfee Show trolled Day by bringing in the producer Schmit who was dressed up as Holtz.

It appears Day will get the last laugh in this beef. Day’s Buckeyes are up 31-15 with just over 9 minutes to play.
