Week 4 of the season did a lot to reveal who the contenders and pretenders were atop the SEC.

Obviously, No. 1 Alabama rolled to a huge 59-0 victory over an overmatched Vanderbilt team in a statement game, but other teams had good showings as well.

SEC Network analyst Chris Doering released his top-five SEC teams following Saturday’s action, with a clear top two emerging in the aftermath of Week 4:

Interestingly, Mississippi State is at No. 3 despite getting blown out by Georgia in Athens on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, a shaky Florida team checks in at No. 5 after finding yet another way to win a close game over a division rival.

Heading into another important slate of games next weekend, it’ll be interesting to see what Doering things this time next Sunday.

Mississippi State plays Auburn on Saturday night in a game that will likely force one team out of the top five.
