SEC DC says LaNorris Sellers ‘could be scary’ in South Carolina OC Kendal Briles’ offense

LaNorris Sellers will once again play under a new offensive coordinator at South Carolina. This time around, it will be Kendal Briles who will be in charge of the Gamecocks’ offense after Mike Shula’s tenure ended after just nine games.
It’s never ideal for a starting quarterback to play under three OCs in as many years. The hope, though, is that Briles can get Sellers playing closer to the way he played in 2024, and then some. In 2025, he wasn’t nearly as effective a runner as he was the year before.
If Briles can unlock that, Sellers will be tough to contain.
“He really struggles to process in the middle of a game,” an anonymous defensive coordinator in the SEC told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. “When you move him around or you move things around on him, he just really struggles. But I think Kendal’s system, if Kendal can be like, ‘Hey, you do this or you do this or take off running,’ if he can get him to do that, I think the kid could be scary. He’s so hard to bring down.”
That’s music to the ears of Gamecocks fans, who sat through a massively disappointing season in 2025.
After going 9-4 in 2024, Shane Beamer’s team regressed badly, playing to a 4-8 overall record and a 1-7 mark in the SEC. It finished second-to-last in the conference in total yards, was third-from-last in rushing yards, and posted just 22.7 points per game, the second-worst average in the league.
