Late Saturday morning, SEC Nation revealed it would be heading to Lexington for the Week 2 battle between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Kentucky Wildcats.
On paper, an Alabama-Kentucky football game typically isn’t intriguing. However, this year’s meeting is loaded with storylines. Crimson Tide quarterback Keelon Russell will be making his first road start. Meanwhile, the Wildcats’ new head coach, Will Stein, gets his first chance to prove his mettle following Mark Stoops’ departure.

Alabama is 39-2-1 versus Kentucky all-time. The Crimson Tide lost to the Wildcats 6-0 back in 1922 and tied them 7-7 in 1939. Since then, Alabama has gone 22-1 against Kentucky. Twenty of those victories have come by double digits. The lone Crimson Tide loss over that stretch came in 1997, when the Tim Couch-led Wildcats prevailed 40-34 in overtime.
Before Alabama and Kentucky renew acquaintances, they both have business to handle in Week 1. The Crimson Tide are currently playing the East Carolina Pirates on ABC. The Wildcats open the Will Stein Era versus the Youngstown State Penguins at 1 p.m. ET (SEC Network+).
