If LSU is going to finally break through under Brian Kelly this season, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will be at the forefront. The Louisiana native is off to a sold start as LSU aims for a 3-0 start with Florida in town for Week 3.

The SEC Network’s Jordan Rodgers thinks Nussmeier is the top quarterback in the nation and will capture the Heisman Trophy.

“[Garrett Nussmeier] is the best QB in college football,” Rodgers said. “I still believe he’ll be holding the Heisman Trophy when it’s all said and done.”

The 23-year-old redshirt senior has passed for 469 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception this season. Nussmeier is in his second season as LSU’s starting quarterback. Last season he broke through on the scene with 4,043 yards and 29 touchdowns through the air with just 12 interceptions. Overall in his time at LSU, Nussmeier has thrown for 6,241 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions.

Nussmeier committed to LSU over offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Georgia, Baylor, and North Carolina. He’s the son of former NFL player and current New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.

Florida at LSU is slated for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff and will be televised on ABC.
