The SEC had a huge set of games in Week 4 in the first real week where you started to see some separation from the contenders and the pretenders. SEC Network analysts Dari Nowkhah, Benjamin Watson and Chris Doering released their individual Top 5 rankings in the conference.
Georgia, Florida and Texas were the top three teams on each of the lists, with the teams being in different orders. Both Nowkhah and Watson had Georgia as their No. 1 team, after the Bulldogs dominated Oklahoma, 41-13. Georgia has now outscored its two SEC opponents by a combined score of 86-30, and the Bulldogs once again have the lost of a championship contender.
Texas was able to hold on against Tennessee, escaping Knoxville with a 20-17 win. The defense played a huge role in the game, as Colin Simmons had five of Texas’ 10 sacks.
The biggest winner of the day was Florida, who moved to 4-0 with a 52-28 victory against Ole Miss. The Gators are on fire under first-year coach Jon Sumrall, and the rushing attack rushed for over 300 yards against the Rebels.
All three had Alabama as the fourth-best team in the SEC.
Nowkhah went with LSU as his fifth best team, as the Tigers picked up a 35-6 win against Texas A&M. Despite the loss to the Gators, Watson had the Rebels in at No. 5.
Mississippi State has been a huge talking point in college football this year, as quarterback Kamario Taylor has been spectacular. That was once again the case on Saturday night, as he led a comeback against Missouri to get the 31-24 win. Doering liked what he saw, and put the Bulldogs in at the No. 5 spot.
These rankings figure to change every week, but thing that is clear is that there are many really good teams in the conference.
