SEC Penalty Report: Week 10

Penalties were limited across the board in the SEC in Week 9, but the same can’t be said for Week 10’s games on Saturday. Of the 12 SEC teams in action, six committed at least six penalties and four teams suffered at least 50 penalty yards for the day.

Auburn had the worst penalty troubles of any team in the conference, committing a whopping 13 penalties for 145 yards in a winning effort against Ole Miss. Another ranked team, No. 1 Mississippi State, also won despite committing eight penalties for 45 yards against Arkansas.

Seven of the SEC’s 14 teams have now cleared the 50 penalty plateau this season, while two teams — Florida and Tennessee — have committed less than 40 penalties for the year. Although both the Gators and Volunteers were both victorious in Week 10, their discipline when it comes to penalties has only helped them to a combined 8-8 record, including a 4-7 record in conference play.

Vanderbilt is the only SEC team to commit more than 60 penalties so far this season, but the Dores have been victim to fewer penalty yards than Auburn, even though Auburn has committed 11 fewer penalties than Vandy this year.

Here’s a full breakdown of every SEC team’s penalty numbers through 10 weeks this season:
