SEC releases statement after Thursday special meeting

The SEC issued a brief statement on Thursday afternoon, after a meeting with the conference’s presidents and chancellors concluded.
“The presidents and chancellors of the Southeastern Conference met Thursday by videoconference to discuss recent matters involving conference expectations and responsibilities,” the SEC said. “Those discussions will continue as the conference and its member universities work toward an appropriate resolution.”
While the meeting was originally scheduled to vote on potentially expelling LSU from the conference over the university’s plans to add former NFL signees to its roster, those plans were set aside after Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris were ultimately not added.
Meanwhile, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, LSU president Wade Rousse “briefly” joined the call.
“He explained to the participants that in light of the pending federal litigation, of which he and LSU are named defendants, that he was advised by council not to participate,” Thamel said.
The SEC filed its lawsuit against LSU on Sept. 3 as it sought to prevent the university, including Lane Kiffin, from using professional players. With LSU ultimately opting not to move forward, it remains to be seen if that lawsuit will be dropped as a result.
On the field, LSU will turn its attention to Louisiana Tech, which it faces at Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
