The Southeastern Conference will hold a special meeting on Thursday to discuss LSU‘s future in the league.
As Yahoo!’s Ross Dellenger shared, the SEC has scheduled the meeting to “decide whether to terminate Louisiana State University as an SEC member instituion pursuant to Section 3.1.5 of the SEC Constitution and Bylaw.”
This news comes minutes after it was reported that the SEC’s federal lawsuit against LSU and Lane Kiffin was amended to “seek the authority” to expel LSU from the conference.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that the SEC is “not expected to” follow through with the expulsion, but the SEC is focused on solidifying its legal ability to enforce its rules and bylaws.
The squabble with LSU is due to the Tigers’ reported intention to roster players who signed NFL contracts this offseason. While court rulings have deemed a few ex-NFL players eligible to return to college football in 2026, the SEC and other power conferences have banned its teams from rostering them.
LSU crushed Clemson 51-10 in its season-opener without any ex-NFL players on its roster. However, LSU left room open on its 105-man roster to potentially roster additional players this season.
The Tigers will host Louisiana Tech in Week 2.
