Earlier tonight, the Southeastern Conference handed out its weekly football honors to the top performers from this past week of SEC football.
Here are the following Week 10 award winners.
Offensive Player of the Week
Josh Dobbs, QB, Tennessee
It was just Josh Dobbs’ second game of the season, but the sophomore quarterback didn’t show any hesitation on the field against South Carolina. He passed for 301 yards and two touchdowns and also gained 166 yards on the ground. Dobbs’ outstanding performance led the Vols’ to a huge comeback victory over the Gamecocks on the road, giving Tennessee its first SEC win on the year.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kris Frost, LB, Auburn
Auburn’s defense made the big plays in the most crucial situations on Saturday and linebacker Kris Frost played a big role in that. He recorded nine tackles, forced a fumble and also recorded a fumble. Both of the turnovers came on Ole Miss’ fourth-quarter drives and helped Auburn preserve its four-point lead.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Mike McNeely, WR, Florida
The former walk-on was responsible for arguably Florida’s biggest play of the season so far when he took the snap on a 39-yard fake field goal and ran it all the way for a touchdown. Following the fake field goal touchdown, the Gators went on to score 31 unanswered points en route to a 38-20 upset over the Georgia Bulldogs.
Freshman of the Week
Johnny McCrary, QB, Vanderbilt
The quarterback position at Vanderbilt has been a revolving door this season, but it appears the Commodores may have found their man. Freshman Johnny McCrary had a breakout game against Old Dominion on Saturday as he became the first SEC freshman to throw for five touchdowns since Maty Mauk last season against Kentucky. McCrary also added 281 passing yards to his impressive stat line.
Offensive Lineman of the Week
Max Garcia, C, Florida
Florida’s starting center was a key piece in a big offensive day for the Gators. Max Garcia recorded five knockdowns and graded out with some of the highest numbers on the offensive line across 66 plays. Garcia’s leadership on the line helped Florida rack up 418 yards rushing against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Defensive Lineman of the Week
Shane Ray, DE, Missouri
Shane Ray named Defensive Lineman of the Week? Stop me if you’ve heard that one before. The redshirt junior defensive end enjoyed a record-setting day on Saturday, recording two more sacks, his fifth two-sack game of the season. Ray now has 12.0 sacks on the season which broke the Missouri single-season sack record of 11.5 sacks previously held by Aldon Smith and Michael Sam.
Drew Laing will be providing analysis and insight on Florida, Georgia, Missouri and South Carolina.
