‘Semi-Gator’ Nick Saban jokingly tells Jon Sumrall to ‘get your sh-t together’

Nick Saban is Alabama through-and-through, but as he told Jon Sumrall and the SEC Now crew on Wednesday, the Florida native now considers himself a “Semi-Gator.”
Saban spoke to the Florida head coach following Sumrall’s appearance at the podium at SEC Media Days and explained his current status in the state of Florida, warning him that he will be in the middle of it if Florida doesn’t get it together.
“I’m a Florida resident now, down there amongst the Gators. Governor DeSantis is a good friend, you took our former President Stuart Bell, who’s now a Gator, and I want you to know I’m kind of a semi-Gator. So if you don’t get your sh*t together, I’m gonna be in the middle of it.”

It’s been a while since Florida was nationally relevant in football. The Gators last won 10 games in a season in 2019, when Dan Mullen and the Gators finished 11-2. Billy Napier struggled to stay relevant despite boatloads of talent from the high school ranks, and Florida turned to Sumrall — who owns a 43-12 career record as a head coach at Troy and Tulane.
