Since this is the first time Shane Beamer will build a staff, the new South Carolina coach said he would take his time to find the right fit for new hires.
Beamer admitted that he would envision bringing some current members of the staff hired by former coach Will Muschamp, but it’s got to be the right fit for the assistants and the program. Beamer said he met with every single member of the 2020 staff on Sunday.
“There’s some great coaches on this staff,” Beamer said. “There’s some coaches on this staff that I’ve worked with, here at Carolina or at different places. Coach Muschamp had put together a great staff of men, coaches and recruiters. …Â I really had some good productive visits on that. I’m going to take my time.”
Beamer said he was given assurances that he would be able to invest in the staff financially.
“The investment has been made,” Beamer said, “and given to me to give us every opportunity, every resource that we need to be successful.”
The Muschamp staff had a small staff of analysts, and Beamer said he’s been around different levels of support staffs.
“I’ve seen both work, and we’re going to do the best fit for Carolina,” Beamer said. “I’m confident that anything that we need to advance this program forward and give us what we need to be successful.”
Over the weekend, Beamer said he received calls from 4 NFL had coaches to recommend assistant coaches for his staff.
“The amount of people who have expressed an interest in being here is really cool,” Beamer said. “I want to get it done as soon as possible, there’s no question about it, but I’m not going to be rushed. We’re going to put together a premier staff that’s a perfect fit for Carolina.”
