Longtime NBA guard and former Kentucky standout John Wall is returning to college basketball in an administrative role.

According to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, Wall is joining Howard University as the school’s new president of basketball operations. According to Charania, Wall will have a “hands-on” role handling roster management, NIL deals, revenue sharing, agent negotiations, and player mentorship.

Wall will work alongside Howard head coach Kenny Blakeney and team general manager Daniel Marks.

Howard is coming off a 24-11 season that featured a third MEAC Tournament championship in 4 seasons and a First Four win over UMBC in the NCAA Tournament.

The Bison tied a program record for wins in a single season last year. The win in Dayton was the program’s first-ever victory at the NCAA Tournament.

Wall, a 5-time All-Star, retired from the NBA in August 2025. He spent the bulk of his 13-year NBA career with the Washington Wizards, a franchise that drafted him first overall in 2010. Wall also played for the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers. He has also worked as a studio analyst for NBA on Prime Video.

At the college level, Wall spent 1 season at Kentucky. Under coach John Calipari, he helped the Wildcats to 35 wins, a regular-season SEC title, an SEC Tournament crown, and an Elite Eight appearance.
