Shane Beamer had some big news during his Sunday teleconference after South Carolina‘s humiliating 49-18 loss at Alabama: edge rusher Dylan Stewart has been handed an indefinite suspension.
Saturday was an eventful day for Stewart, but for all the wrong reasons. It started in the first half, when ESPN cameras caught him and Beamer in a heated exchange moments after Stewart was hit with a roughing-the-passer penalty on Keelon Russell.
It got worse later on. In the fourth quarter, Stewart threw a punch at Alabama tight end Josh Ford. He was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct but, rather surprisingly, was allowed to remain in the game. Moments later, he was spotted talking back to Gamecocks assistant coaches after being pulled from the game.
Yep, makes sense. Still unbelievable Stewart wasn't ejected from the game after throwing this punch.pic.twitter.com/x4I8aOVV3F

Beamer, during his postgame press conference, said he didn’t see Stewart’s punch until after the game ended. But that, along with his insubordination on the sideline, served as the final straw as the junior is now set to serve a suspension.
“There is a standard of how we do things in our program, and that is not it,” Beamer said, according to The Post and Courier’s David Cloninger.
Stewart is far from Beamer’s biggest issue right now. Saturday’s loss to the Tide dropped the Gamecocks to 1-9 in their last 10 SEC games. South Carolina has now allowed 90 points over the past two weeks.
Beamer and the Gamecocks will look to buck the trend in Week 5 as they face Kentucky at Williams-Brice Stadium.
