Shane Beamer comments on arrest of South Carolina tight end on racing charge

Shane Beamer addressed the arrest of South Carolina tight end Caden Ramsey on Tuesday. Ramsey was arrested early Monday morning outside of Charleston, S.C., on a charge of racing on a public road.
“Extremely disappointing,” Beamer said. “Caden was just named our scout team player of the week last week. week. That’s not his nature, knowing the young man. We’ve never had a single issue with him since he’s been here.”
Ramsey has been suspended from the team, per Beamer.
“He and I met (Tuesday) morning. He understands he made a mistake, and we’ll handle it internally. But for the time being, he’s suspended,” he added.
Ramsey, originally from Cross, S.C., signed as a three-star recruit out of the class of 2026.
According to WCIV, “the charge carries potential penalties that include up to six months in jail, a fine exceeding $1,000 and the possible revocation of a driver’s license if convicted.” WOLO-TV reported on Tuesday that Ramsey and another vehicle “reach(ed) speeds of up to 113 miles per hour.”
“We talked about it. Absolutely can’t do that,” Beamer said. “We’ve had plenty of conversations about driving and not driving too fast and the recklessness of that.”
Shane Beamer‘s team is 1-0 after a 57-0 win over Kent State. The Gamecocks face Towson in Week 2.
