The South Carolina Gamecocks experienced a moment of dread when starting cornerback Judge Collier went down early in their matchup against Virginia Tech on Sunday. What flashed through the minds of head coach Shane Beamer and the team was a mix of concern and determination. The loss of Collier, a seasoned 3-year defensive back and second-year starter, left a significant void on the field.

In his weekly radio appearance, Beamer shared hopeful news: while both Collier and senior edge JT Geer will be sidelined for this week’s game, he anticipates their return next week.

Beamer added that neither injury is believed to be a long-term issue.

Collier played just 9 snaps on Sunday before being forced to leave due to his injury. He later returned to the sidelines using crutches and with his knee in a cast, watching as his teammates executed “Beamer Ball” to secure a 24-11 victory over the Hokies.

In Collier’s absence, Brandon Cosse, Vicari Swain, and Myles Norwood all had expanded roles.

Over his 3 seasons with the Gamecocks, Collier has been nothing short of disruptive for opposing offenses. As a sophomore in 2024, he made an impressive mark in all 13 games he appeared in, racking up 28 tackles and leading the team with 8 pass breakups.

Beamer also said Thursday night that freshman offensive lineman Shed Sarratt will be available on Saturday.

South Carolina opens its home slate against South Carolina State at Williams-Brice Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
