The South Carolina Gamecocks finished a forgettable season Saturday with a 28-14 home loss to Clemson, but embattled coach Shane Beamer promised brighter times ahead for his program.

“I can 1 billion percent promise you this: when we have a helluva season in 2026 and when I am doing this press conference after the Clemson game next year, because of the success that we’re gonna have next season, and I know we will, we are going to look back at this season and say ‘It sucked going through it, but because of what we went through in 25 it led us to what we just did in 26’,” Beamer told reporters after the loss.

South Carolina’s loss to cross-state rival Clemson completed a dissatisfying 4-8 campaign that pundits feel will put Beamer on the 2026 preseason hot seat. The Tigers’ victory was their 6th straight in Columbia and improved their series record against the Gamecocks to 74-44-4.

Of South Carolina’s 8 losses in 2025, 6 came against ranked SEC teams – with the other 2 against Vanderbilt and Clemson. The Commodores, of course, are now. a ranked squad but were not on Sept. 13. South Carolina’s only SEC victory came Sept. 27 at home against Kentucky.

Sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers was one of South Carolina’s few bright spots Saturday, throwing for 381 yards and 2 touchdowns but also uncorking 2 interceptions.
