Shane Beamer provides thoughts on proverbial ‘SEC Flu’ not impacting South Carolina
The SEC has become notorious for cannibalizing itself this season, as the new 9-game league schedule and plethora of quality teams vying for College Football Playoff positioning have created a brutal proving ground.
That’s been best defined by the trend of programs picking up season-defining victories one week before losing in disappointing fashion the next, which has prompted many fan bases to just assume that will happen.
But South Carolina managed to buck that trend this past Saturday, as the Gamecocks followed an upset win over Tennessee with a fairly dominant showing on the road against Oklahoma.
Following the contest, Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer addressed the so-called ‘SEC Flu’ and was proud of his team for maintaining its momentum into this week’s game.
“Really awesome night,” Beamer said. “All week we challenged our football team, because nobody in the SEC has been able to do what we did tonight, and that’s come up with a big win and follow that up with another the very next week. That ‘SEC Flu’ you guys asked me about a couple of days ago, we didn’t get it.”
Now, Beamer & Co. will be focused on extending their winning streak to 4 games when a struggling yet well-rested Texas A&M team visits Columbia.
