Shane Beamer throws support behind Frank Martin: ‘Excited to see where he lands next’

Shane Beamer is a long-time supporter of all things Gamecocks, and so it was no surprise to hear him through his support behind departed men’s basketball coach Frank Martin.
“He’s been great to me since I’ve been here,” Beamer said. “… He, like a lot of our coaches here at Carolina have been supportive of me. We’ve traded text messages and phone calls throughout my season I would get from him, and during his season as well. Understand it’s part of the business, and he’s certainly elevated the basketball program here during his time. It’s a better situation for the new coach walking in than what it was, I guess, when Frank took over when he first got hired. And certainly wish he and his family well, and thank them for all they did for Carolina also. He’s a good friend and excited to see where he lands next.”

The Gamecocks finished 18-13 this past season, and lost to Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament to end their season. The Gamecocks lost 3 of their final 4 games this season and Martin was 171-147 at South Carolina, a run that will be most remembered for the Final Four run in the 2016-17 season.
