Shane Gillis stars alongside Marcus Freeman in hilarious, new Notre Dame ad
Shane Gillis didn’t believe he was asking for too much for Marcus Freeman.
In a hilarious new ad involving the comedian and self-professed Notre Dame super fan, Gillis had some simple requests for the Fighting Irish head coach as he gets ready to kick-start another season of football. How could there be any problem with that?
In the ad released on Thursday by Under Armour, Gillis was introduced to Freeman for what he thought was the latest time, even though Freeman casually said it was their first meeting. No matter, as Gillis was called one of the program’s newest donors when shaking hands with the head coach of the program he worships — literally, as we found out before last year’s national title game.
Gillis requested that he attend some practices, because why wouldn’t one of the program’s newest, big-name donors be able to have an inside look at the team he loves so much? But, naturally, that wasn’t all that Gillis wanted. There was the topic of a whistle — you know, the thing that head coaches like Freeman use when they’re presiding over a practice to get ready for a top-10, nationally televised showdown at Miami.
Forget Freeman, though. This was all about Gillis, who wanted that whistle so he could, you know, participate in the Notre Dame practices he was going to. What’s wrong with that?
In the ad, Gillis, or in this particular case, Coach Gillis, had some interesting suggestions for Coach Freeman about what the Fighting Irish could do.
It was an interesting time at practice for Notre Dame, to say the least, and here is the hilarious video of the real head coach and the “new head coach” combining their efforts:
We’ll see on Sunday night after Notre Dame finishes its game at Miami if Gillis’s tactics had the effect he was looking for. The sixth-ranked Irish and 10th-ranked Hurricanes square off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
