The dust is still settling on the transfer portal after it closed for entry last Friday, as various players are making their commitments to round out rosters ahead of the spring camp period.
And at South Carolina, Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks formally added the services of former Oklahoma wide receiver Jayden Gibson. The monstrous 6-foot-5 target heads to Columbia after showing great promise for the Sooners in 2023 and missing all of the 2024 campaign due to a preseason knee injury.
Gibson then suffered more health complications that forced him to miss the beginning of the 2025 season, and head coach Brent Venables confirmed during the campaign that Gibson would be entering the transfer portal when it opened.
While many speculated about Gibson’s departure from Norman, he took to social media to set the record straight recently.
“the ONLY reason OU and I parted ways was because of my injuries. anything else being spread is false information from people who don’t know any details, just what they see on there phones,” Gibson wrote in his post on X.
The rangy target arrived at Oklahoma as a 4-star prospect out of Winter Garden, Florida, according to 247Sports. Gibson played sparingly as a freshman in 2022 before showing great potential the following year, as he racked up 14 catches for 375 yards and five touchdowns.
LaNorris Sellers will now have another imposing target to find out wide as the Gamecocks look to bounce back from a disappointing 4-8 campaign from last year.
