South Carolina end zone bushes destroyed amid field-storming after win over Tennessee
The South Carolina Gamecocks were the betting favorite for Saturday’s game vs. the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers. Because of that, their 27-24 win over the Vols technically wasn’t an upset. Don’t tell that to Gamecock fans, though, who are strutting their stuff again after an 0-3 start to SEC play.
South Carolina (4-3, 2-3 SEC) stomped Florida on the road in Week 6 leading into a Week 7 bye. The team’s Week 8 meeting with Tennessee was its first home game since a 35-34 loss to Kentucky, a contest in which the Gamecocks held a 17-0 first-half advantage.
Their ranked victory against the Volunteers signaled a full shift of the tides on their season and was rightfully celebrated with a field storm. If there’s a negative, it’s that South Carolina’s iconic end zone bushes were left scattered and shredded in the process.
The Gamecocks, due to their three losses, have only a slight 1.1% chance of reaching this year’s College Football Playoff. However, four of their final five games — at Oklahoma, vs. Texas A&M, at Arkansas, at Clemson — are more than winnable. Their other matchup, with No. 5 Georgia, is on home turf, which should aid their cause. South Carolina battles Oklahoma on Halloween at 4:15 p.m. E.T. (SEC Network).
