South Carolina’s ailing passing game received a jolt on Thursday with the announcement that Georgia Tech WR Ahmarean Brown would transfer from The Flats to Columbia via the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Brown announced his plans to transfer on his Instagram account on Thursday. Any production Brown adds will be a welcome sight for the Gamecocks who struggled in the passing game in 2020, especially outside of Shi Smith. With Smith gone in 2021, Brown will be in the mix to be a go-to target for QB Luke Doty.
In 2020, Brown had 11 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown, but did not play in the final three games.
It was a steep drop off from 2019, when he appeared in all 12 games, made 10 starts, and produced a historic season, tying Calvin Johnson for most receiving touchdowns by a freshman at Georgia Tech with seven. He also had a team-leading 396 receiving yards on 21 receptions to average 18.9 yards per catch.
The 5-10, 170-pounder is a Tampa, Florida native.
