South Carolina is hosting 5-star edge rusher Zion Elee, who has already committed to Maryland, for Saturday’s SEC showdown against Alabama.

Elee’s shocking visit to Columbia was reported by On3 on Saturday afternoon. Elee committed to Maryland on Dec. 7, 2024, so he’s been firmly entrenched on the Terrapins’ Class of 2026 recruiting class for nearly a year. That could possibly be changing, according to Saturday’s report, with Elee attending South Carolina‘s national TV showcase game against the 4th-ranked Crimson Tide.

The possibility of South Carolina prying Elee from Maryland’s grasp is huge. Elee is 1 of the most coveted players in the 2026 cycle. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Elee is a 5-star phenom who is the 2nd-ranked player in the entire Class of 2026. The St. Frances Academy product out of Baltimore is the top-rated edge rusher in the class and the top-ranked player from the state of Maryland.

With Elee being committed to his home state school since last December, it was assumed that his commitment was going nowhere. Now, with Saturday’s report, South Carolina at least has a chance of changing all that and changing the destination of 1 of the best players in the 2026 class.

Elee’s situation will be 1 to watch this fall, especially coming out of Saturday’s reported visit for the South Carolina-Alabama game.
