South Carolina reveals captains for Week 8 home matchup against Oklahoma
South Carolina has lost 3 out of 4 after a 2-0 start, and that means the Gamecocks carry a 3-3 record into Saturday’s Week 8 home matchup against No. 14 Oklahoma.
The only SEC win that South Carolina has this season was against last-place Kentucky, so head coach Shane Beamer‘s team is looking for a statement win in the 12:45 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC Network. The Gamecocks will have the home crowd behind them against an Oklahoma team that”ll be trying to bounce back itself after last week’s loss to Texas.
South Carolina will look for leadership from all of its players on Saturday afternoon, but 4 in particular will be called upon as captains. That quartet of captains was revealed on Friday night, a list that includes Jordan Dingle, Luke Doty, Fred “Jayr” Johnson and Shawn Murphy.
Dingle is a senior tight end with just 5 catches for 67 yards so far this season. He might not have many catches, but Beamer will be calling on him to provide the leadership the Gamecocks need to get past Oklahoma. Doty is a senior wide receiver who also serves as a backup quarterback to LaNorris Sellers, so he is invaluable to the team.
Johnson is a sophomore linebacker with 28 tackles, 17 of them solo, 1 sack and 1 interception so far this season, so he’s done a little bit of everything. And Murphy is a junior linebacker with 18 tackles, 10 of them solo, so far this year for the Gamecocks.
