South Carolina, SEC jointly announce suspension length for Dylan Stewart

The South Carolina Gamecocks took a devastating 49-18 beating from the Alabama Crimson Tide this past weekend, but the final score was far from the biggest story of the game.
That would be the behavior of star Gamecocks pass rusher Dylan Stewart, who got into it on multiple occasions with both Alabama players and his own coaches. Stewart received a penalty in the fourth quarter for punching a Crimson Tide offensive lineman, and was also filmed getting into heated arguments with head coach Shane Beamer and other assistant coaches shortly after.
Stewart’s antics led Beamer to announce an indefinite suspension for the likely future first-round draft pick on Sunday night, saying the exact length hadn’t yet been determined. The indefinite nature of his punishment became much more definite on Monday afternoon when South Carolina and the SEC both announced that Stewart will officially be suspended for just 1 game.
Per a post on the official SEC X account, the Gamecocks and the conference are jointly disciplining Stewart for what the SEC is calling “egregious contact against an opposing player,” referring to the aforementioned punch he threw in the fourth quarter.
The star pass rusher has gotten into trouble for his on-field antics in the past, but Saturday was a completely different level, with many fans and analysts wondering whether Stewart had played his last game in garnet and black.
It looks like Beamer and the SEC reached an understanding with the projected top-10 draft pick, though, as he will only be forced to sit out this weekend’s home matchup against No. 24 Kentucky.
